Boomer buys six at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale 2022
The 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale was a fantastic way to bring in the New Year with another record breaking sale. Book 1 saw an increase of over 20%, at a staggering 93% clearance rate.
Boomer Bloodstock purchased a total of six yearlings during the week, with four of those on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Lot 213 I Am Invincible x Lipari (Redoute’s Choice) colt $600,000
This colt by I Am Invincible was purchased from the Baramul Stud draft and is from a proven producer in Lipari. As is the case with most of his sire’s quality progeny, this colt boasts a strong hindquarter conducive to speed. He is a half-brother to G1 winner, Levendi, as well as G3 winners, Wu Gok and Marcel From Madrid. Further stamina is added through the pedigree with his second dam, Tully Thunder, who won the G1 Australasian Oaks. This combination of speed and stamina should hold him in good stead for Hong Kong racing.
Lot 336 Deep Field x Onemorezeta (Onemorenomore) colt $500,000
Deep Field is high on the hit list for Hong Kong as the sire has had such great success in a short period of time, including recent G1 Hong Kong Sprint victor, Sky Field. Purchased from the Attunga Stud draft, he is out of G3 winner, Onemorezeta, a half-sister to G2 winner and sire, Cosmic Force, who is also by Deep Field. This colt’s short cannons and strong shoulder are what drew me in and convinced me that he would be a quality acquisition for The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Lot 684 Deep Field x Whistling Dixie (Pins) colt $400,000
This colt is an eye-catching individual with a deep girth and good bone structure and was the second Deep Field purchased on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. From the proven nursery Segenhoe Stud, this colt is out of the NZ G3 winner, Whistling Dixie, and is from the same family as HKG1 placed, Victory Magic.
Lot 915 Pierro x Dinnigan (Snitzel) colt $380,000
The final purchase for the Hong Kong Jockey Club was from Zhongli Thoroughbreds. This athletic colt is by Pierro, a sire who has already experienced G1 success in Hong Kong with Furore, who took out the 2019 Hong Kong Derby. He is the first foal out of Snitzel mare, Dinnigan, with G1 Golden Slipper winner, Stay Inside, featuring on the pedigree page under the second dam.
The remaining two purchases were made with Ballarat trainer Matt Cumani. We found value in a Russian Revolution colt and a Written By filly for prices well below the sale average.
Lot 399 Russian Revolution x Pure Pride (Shocking) colt $100,000
Purchased alongside Matt Cumani from one of my favourite farms in Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, this colt was fantastic buying for only $100,000. He’s a beautiful, big horse with a classic head and a strong front end. He is the second foal out of Listed winner Pure Pride who had plenty of talent finishing 0.9l off I Am A Star in the G1 Myer Classic.
Lot 786 Written By x Bee Ali (Al Maher) filly $120,000
This filly is by first season stallion Written By, who had one of the more impressive crops on type in the sale. She is a compact type with short pasterns, a short back and a nice strong hip which hopefully means she will be ready for the early two-year-old races. She is out of the Al Maher mare, Bee Ali, who has produced three foals all on the same cross as this filly and they have all been winners.
