National Broodmare Sale a happy hunting ground

A year after buying Group 1 producer Sung at the Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale for a bargain $70,000, I returned to the sale to find more top class mares for my clients. It proved to be a fruitful search with some outstanding purchases made.

Musk Creek Farm has an exciting vision for their breeding program and I was thrilled to help them make strides toward fulfilling it at this sale. We purchased blue-chip mare Personalised, a winner of four of her eight starts, from Cressfield’s excellent consignment for $525,000.

National Broodmare Sale a happy hunting ground

The Snitzel mare is from Listed-winning Personify who has produced three stakes horses from five to run and comes from an outstanding producing family. Personify is a half-sister to South African champion Laisserfaire with her dam producing three other stakes winners and her daughters following suit, giving promise that Personalised will have and excellent broodmare career.

The speedy runner is in foal to hot young sire Spirit Of Boom on an early cover and she will return to Dundeel on the $100,000 nomination we bought Tuesday night from the stallion nominations auction benefiting Tye Angland. She is full of quality and will have every chance to succeed with the stallions she’ll be visiting.

I purchased Sung from Godolphin at last year’s sale for Heather Brown’s Plaintree Farm before her 2-year-old Microphone came out and put together a stellar 2-year-old campaign. We returned to the source here when purchasing Listed-winning Rio Osa from the operation for $140,000.

Already the dam of a Listed placed runner and three winners from four to race, I expect this Canny Lad half-sister to Denman will follow in Sung’s footsteps. Her full sister Preserve won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce at two and is the dam of two Group winners herself with half-sister Marvilha the dam of this season’s Group 1 Golden Slipper winner. There is obvious form in the family and Rio Osa has a few Godolphin runners in the pipeline. On top of that, she is in foal to Exosphere so there are exciting times ahead for her.

It was another Godolphin offering that proved to be the right fit to close out my purchases at the sale when buying Vigilance for $45,000 for Murray Thoroughbreds. Winning her first four races in an eight-race career for over $104,000 in earnings, the Sepoy daughter has the race record to back up her pedigree. The mare’s young dam is a half-sister to two stakes placed runners and from a Group 2 winner with even more Group form under Vigilance’s fourth dam, including Group 1 winner Lachlan River. Carrying her first foal by Exosphere, she has all the ingredients to be a successful broodmare.

My next stop this sale season is the Inglis Melbourne Great Southern Sale on June 16 – 19. As always, if you’d like to purchase a horse at this sale feel free to get in touch.
