Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale proved to be another fruitful sale for Boomer Bloodstock with the purchase of Sunblessed for 85,000 guineas on behalf of Radley Equine.

A 2-year-old Sir Percy daughter, she is the first foal from the Zamindar mare Alphabetique. Alphabetique is a half-sister to the Group-placed Alamode who is also by Sir Percy and is the granddaughter of Champion and multiple Group 1 Winner Alborada. The family has talent and being closely related to a Group placed mare also made her very attractive.

The filly has been placed in Ireland over 1400m, although she has been very unlucky not to have won. Her running style of getting back to last always poses problems in Europe with the large fields, although she has a great turn of foot and appears to like the faster ground that she will get in California.

Another attraction was her physical type. She has a good frame without being too heavy and with her breeding, I am confident she will go two turns.

Sir Percy has already had success in the United States with Wake Forest winning the Grade 1 Man o’ War Stakes a few years ago and Lady Pimpernel winning the G3 Robert J Frankel at Santa Anita so he’s proven to throw types who do well in the country as well.

The market at Tatts was strong all week for the horses that are rated highly with a deep buying bench assembled from all over the world. Like all auctions at the moment, if you has the right article you got rewarded.

This sale is always tricky as you have so many hoops to jump through with race replays, inspections, vetting, and the large number of withdrawals. But it has been a very happy ground for me since my first sale here in 2009. I’ve purchased 20 horses which have resulted in 85% winners, 30% Stakes winners including the multiple Grade 1 winner Obviously.

From Tatts I’m in Kentucky for the breeding stock sales taking place over the next two weeks.

Keeneland provides a smorgasbord of options for breeders all over the world and in particular the Australians. The US mares have over-achieved in Australia for many years and I believe many great opportunities arise every year at this sale. A large catalog with a diverse offering of mares provides some great value that can get you a top class mare on a smaller budget.
