It may have been gale force winds and torrential rain on Day 1 of this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, but it didn’t deter Boomer Bloodstock from another successful sale with the acquisition of four well-bred yearlings for both long standing clients and his new partnership with The Hong Kong Jockey Club.
With 808 lots catalogued for auction over the three day sale, Boomer competitively shortlisted and bid on what he deemed the cream of the crop.
The first purchase came early on Day 1 when Lot 40, a filly by Winning Rupert out of Cara Blanca, was presented by Holbrook Thoroughbreds. Knocked down for $40,000 for syndicator Domain Thoroughbreds, this filly holds a lot of promise and will head to the stable of Matt Cumani to tap into the speed that her sire displayed on the track.
“This filly was a strong, sharp looking type that was very well balanced and to my eye could go early. She was bred along the same lines as Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist and looks like the good Written Tycoons,” Rounsefell said.
Lot 40: Winning Rupert x Cara Blanca
Day 2 of the sale brought about the purchase of Lot 341, a colt by So You Think out of Nataya Rose, also from the draft of Holbrook Thoroughbreds. Purchased for $150,000 for Misty Valley Thoroughbreds, and boasting his sire’s physical attributes, this colt will begin the next chapter of his career in the Lindsey Smith stable.
Rounsefell was thrilled to come out on top, stating “This colt is a magnificent type and bred on the same cross as our So You Think stakes winner, and for the same connections, in Beautiful Mind. He has an awesome shoulder, his old man’s head and is a powerhouse type that I am very excited about.”
Lot 341: So You Think (NZ) x Nataya Rose
The same group of owners in Boomer Bloodstock’s dual Group 3-winning purchase, Sweet Deal, were active again when securing Lot 414 for $50,000. The filly by Shooting to Win out of the stakes-placed mare Reverenza, was consigned by Rheinwood Pastoral and heads off to be trained by John Thompson at Randwick.
“This filly looks a genuine, honest type from a solid running family. She is very well balanced, shows quality and is a lovely mover,” said Rounsefell.
Lot 414: Shooting to Win x Reverenza
The final purchase of the sale, Lot 449, was on behalf of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, with Rounsefell determined to secure the Deep Field colt. Identified as his favourite yearling of the sale, he was purchased for $260,000 from the respected Hunter Valley nursery Goodwood Farm.
Out of black-type mare She’s A Stalker, the colt will join other Deep Field progeny, including winners such as Californiadeepshot, in Hong Kong.
“He has so much class and quality about him and is an extremely athletic type. I loved his movement and he has plenty of scope to develop further. He is by an emerging sire and out of a fast mare that should suit Hong Kong,” commented Rounsefell.
