Karaka success for HKJC

The New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale continues to provide value opportunities each year and, at the 2023 version of the sale at Karaka, Boomer Bloodstock picked up five quality yearlings for the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Lot 329 – Per Incanto (USA) x Makkura $360,000

Bred and sold by Little Avondale, who also stand his stallion Per Incanto, this powerful colt is out of tough Listed winner Makkura and is from the family of multiple-Group 1 winner Westminster. Physically, he was a rock solid type with nice improvement to come being a November foal. He has a strong hip, good depth to his girth and a big, athletic step to his walk.

Lot 423 – Per Incanto x Petite En Jeu $400,000

This beautiful-moving colt consigned by Prima Park is out of a young mare who won six races. She was a stakes performer herself and is a sister to Group 3 winner La Fille En Jeu. This colt has a free-flowing action with a nice length of rein and a lovely strong shoulder. As he continues to furnish he will develop into a really imposing type.

Lot 585 – El Roca x Test My Resolve $130,000

A beautiful, scopey colt by El Roca from Westbury Stud, he is out of a Testa Rossa mare who’s a half-sister to two stakes winners, one of whom is Group 1-performed. He’s from a successful family that includes Australian Champion 2YO Catbird, and by a sire that is doing very well, from limited numbers, in Hong Kong.

Lot 605 – Darci Brahma x Tolgarth $130,000

Purchased from Haunui Farm, this well-built colt with a strong hindquarter is an exciting prospect. He is out of a three-quarter sister to the stakes winner and Group 1-placed Happy Hippy, and from a family of stakes winners which include Group 1 winner Notoire and is by a proven sire in Hong Kong in Darci Brahma.

Lot 621 – Deep Field x Via Veneto $450,000

This powerful and well-stamped colt by Deep Field was bought from boutique breeders Beaufort Downs. He has a high-class, international pedigree, which includes dual-G1 HK Vase winner Highland Reel – Ballydoyle’s globetrotter who is now standing at stud. This colt is the first foal from her dam, who herself is out of a Group 1-placed Encosta de Lago mare and was a standout in the sale.
