Patch of Theta has his sights set on Group 1 glory
Patch of Theta announced himself as a rising star in Hong Kong racing with a dominant win in the G3 Chinese Club Challenge Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin. Boomer Bloodstock purchased him for the HKJC at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and was the subsequent top lot at their International Sale with the Zoustar gelding delivering on his early promise with a polished performance.
Patch of Theta surged home under Karis Teetan to win by a length and three-quarters and trainer Francis Lui now has his sights set on the G1 Stewards’ Cup, confident in the five-year-old’s ability to step up to the mile.
“After the race, [Teetan] told me the horse was very good and he’s got a third gear, not a second gear,” said Lui. “Now he can run between 1400m and 1600m, next time we will think about the G1 Stewards’ Cup.”
After an exciting start to the year we’ll be on the hunt for the next Patch of Theta at this year’s Magic Millions!
