Royal Randwick double on Cup Day

It was an exciting Melbourne Cup day for Boomer Bloodstock with a double at Royal Randwick by Nordicus (Dundeel) and Danzie (Fastnet Rock).

A $900,000 buy at the 2017 Magic Millions Sale, three-year-old colt Nordicus, out of five-time Group 1 winner Miss Finland (Redoute’s Choice), kicked off his campaign with an impressive maiden win for his group of loyal owners.

While trainer Bjorn Baker has had to be patient with Nordicus, who has suffered small setbacks which restricted him to just one start as a 2-year-old, he is now ready to put his best foot forward.

“It’s exciting – he’s got a big future this horse,” Baker said after the race. “He’s only going to get better the further he goes, he’s a powerful customer.

Being a son of Champion three-year-old Dundeel, winner of the ATC Derby by 6 lengths easing down, it is anticipated that Nordicus will relish a step up in distance and benefit from more race experience.

“As you could see at the line, he wandered about a bit,” Baker said “He’s got to learn what it’s about but he’s got a big future.”

The Royal Randwick card was signed off with another impressive Boomer purchase, lightly raced Danzie (NZ) (Fastnet Rock) adding a second consecutive win to his résumé for loyal client Roger Davis.

The son of Fastnet Rock has had 12 starts building up an impressive record of four victories including a last start win at Canterbury, and placing on an additional six occasions.

From Zabeel mare Zarzuela, Danzie was purchased from the Trelawney Stud draft at Inglis Easter.

Late last week another Boomer Bloodstock debutant showed immense ability, three-year-old filly Lady Vega winning her first start for Domain Thoroughbreds and Darren Weir at Ballarat.

The daughter of Lope de Vega was purchased for $75,000 from Kitchwin Hills at Magic Millions.
