Well executed sale lands Boomer five quality broodmares

The 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale was a fantastic three days, with many thanks to Managing Director Barry Bowditch for delivering a successful sale amongst difficult Covid-19 restrictions.

Even with restrictions in place, it was great to be back at a live auction. We were fortunate enough to purchase five lovely broodmares on budget and perfectly suited for the long term goals of each client.

We ended the sale with a total spend of $1,205,000.

The first purchase of the sale was Lot 34, the high class performer Mirette, for $150,000 on behalf of Musk Creek Farm and consigned by Kitchwin Hills. She is by Unemcumbered out of the Zabeel mare Lady Zabeel (NZ).

Lot 34: Mirette

“Mirette was a very talented race mare winning a Group 3 and placing second narrowly in a Group 1,” Boomer said.

She is very good looking and easy to mate. We thought she was superb value and is a welcome addition to the Musk Creek Farm broodmare band.

Day 2 of the sale saw Lot 342 added to the Musk Creek Farm portfolio when securing the well-balanced mare for $320,000. Consigned by Godolphin, Notre Dame is by proven sire Exceed and Excel out of the Champion race mare Divine Madonna and was the only mare in foal to Street Boss (USA) at the sale.

“Notre Dame was top of the pecking order for client Musk Creek Farm and they are excited to add another daughter of Divine Madonna,” commented Boomer.

“I love fillies out of Champions so that was a big tick for me.

“The client owns her half-sister and she has an outstanding I Am Invincible filly on the ground.”

We landed our most expensive purchase of the sale on Day 3 when Lot 493 was knocked down for $550,000 on behalf of Daandine Stud and consigned by Edinburgh Park. Viennese Star is by I Am Invincible out of Redoute’s Choice mare Viennese Lass.

“Viennese Star was an extremely desirable mare for Daandine Stud. The goal is to breed high class two-year-old’s and we believe that she has all the ingredients to do that,” said Boomer.

Lot 493: Viennese Star

“She was a talented two-year-old herself and is a beautifully balanced individual. She is the right line of one of the best families in Australia by the Champion I Am Invincible.”

Viennese Star is currently in foal to Shooting to Win.

The next mare acquired was Lot 531, purchased for $95,000 on behalf of Misty Valley Thoroughbreds and consigned by Widden Stud. Amthaal is by the proven broodmare sire Lonhro, from a fast family and out of the stakes placed mare Jalsah.

“She is in foal to the new sire Written By so is a nice package for my client Misty Valley Thoroughbreds at the price,” commented Boomer.

Bidding at the Broodmare Sale closed when we secured our fifth and final purchase, Lot 603 knocked down for $90,000 on account of Godolphin. Clothing is by Commands out of Rompers.

“Clothing is a mare my client and I marked in our catalogues when they first came out,” commented Boomer.

“She is a quality type from the Woodlands family and is a proven producer having thrown Group 3 winner Raiment and recent promising filly Tailleur.

“She has a full relation to Tailleur in her belly which is exciting and hopefully she will produce a filly or two in the next few years.”
