Boomer buys 3 at Fasig-Tipton California Yearling Sale

The 2021 Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearling Sale continued to show the vibrance and strength of the American yearling market in one of its first regional market tests.

This was the third year that Fasig-Tipton conducted the auction, which was previously held by Barrett’s, and it was the strongest edition across all metrics. The sale’s top lot was a filly by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, who brought $350,000.  17 horses brought $100,000 or more, almost double 2019 and 2020’s figures combined. Kentucky-based sires dominated the leaderboard, with 8 out of the top 10 lots being by sires residing there. Hip 30, a colt by Square Eddie, was the top-priced lot by a California-based sire.

At this year’s edition three yearling colts were purchased by Boomer for the barn of California trainer Dan Blacker.

Hip 30, a son of the proven California-based sire Square Eddie. Consigned by breeder Fairview LLC, was purchased for $200,000.   The strong, straightforward colt is a full brother to Square Deal and a half-brother to Take the One O One, both stakes winners in California and looks a very solid horse for Blacker’s barn.

The next colt purchased was a scopey son of Mr. Big, also a stalwart among the California sire ranks. He is out of a young mare who is a half-sister to stakes winning, G2-placed Bruce’s Dream. Offered as Hip 158 from the Havens Bloodstock Agency consignment, he was purchased for $65,000.

The final colt in the trio is a son of young California sire Danzing Candy. Consigned by breeder Woodbrdge Farm, Hip 207 is out of young Astrology mare who is a half to a stakes filly. The well-developed, precocious looking colt was purchased for $10,000 and represented great value.
