Filly Fitted the Bill
Goldin’s Merchant Navy x Bucchanal Woman filly, Lot 110, caught the attention of breeder Peter Murray and Boomer Bloodstock Principal Craig Rounsefell was on hand at Morphettville to seal the deal at $360,000 following a spirited bidding dual.
“Pete has been a long-time client of mine and he loved the filly on pedigree and picked her out a couple of weeks ago,” Rounsefell said.
“I had her vetted and she checked out perfectly, so I got on a plane. When I laid eyes on her I immediately thought she was special and the best Merchant Navy I have seen this year.”
“She has good size, is short-coupled, has a lot of depth to her, a quality head and eye and she is a super mover with really strong hocks. An outstanding prospect
The filly is by first season sire Merchant Navy, a son of champion sire Fastnet Rock and a dual Group 1 winning son in the sire making Coolmore Stakes as well as at Royal Ascot in the Diamond Jubilee.
Murray and Rounsefell were initially impressed with the filly’s “deep pedigree that positions her nicely as a future broodmare,” Rounsefell said.
“The dam was a very fast mare, a stakes winner by Encosta De Lago, a proven broodmare sire, who has already thrown a smart G3 winning daughter by Sepoy. She has another filly by Sepoy who is city winner and also another multiple city winner who is stakes placed by Sebring.”
The grey youngster is a half-sister to the G3 Hawkesbury Crown winner Sweet Scandal (Sepoy) and multiple city winner and stakes placed Sir Bacchus (Sebring). Their dam, Bacchanal Woman (Encosta De Lago), has a race record featuring nine wins including the Listed National Sprint.
The second dam, M’lady Fonteyn, is a sister to two-time G3 winning mare Arrabeea and a half-sister to G1 placed, Marie Claire. Their dam, Trotanoy, is a producer of six winners and also has blacktype winning twice at Listed level and placing in a G3.
“Her female line is very strong, and she is off one of the best-producing farms in South Australia in Goldin Farms.” Rounsefell said.
“I have had previous success buying off Goldin Farms, purchasing the stakes winner Beautiful Mind (So You Think).”
“First and foremost, I think this filly is a pretty exciting racing prospect and then she’ll be a great addition to Pete’s ever growing Murray Thoroughbred’s broodmare band at Three Bridges Farm.”
