Tuvalu Stakes Win
Tuvalu proved a cut above his rivals when he galloped to an impressive victory in the Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool.
It was a great return to form for the G1 Toorak Handicap winner and opens up the door for an exciting Spring Carnival.
In doing so it took his prize money tally beyond $2 million. He recorded the ninth win of his 22 start career. “He had to do it out of his comfort zone, giving 7kg away to some pretty sharp 1200 metres horses when we know his best is over 1400 metres to 1600 metres,” Lindsey Smith said.
“It was some training performance and he is a tough horse. He saw them coming and dug deep. This is a race I have tried to win since the day I walked into Warrnambool,” said jockey Fred Kersley.
Tuvalu was a $200,000 yearling purchase from his breeders Merricks Station at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2019. He is out of the placed Exceed And Excel mare Hangin’ Tough and hails from the well-known Darley family of Group 1-winning pair Helmet and Epaulette.
